Love & Stitches Quilt

Love & Stitches quilt with two toned hearts

My first pattern test ever was the Love & Stitches quilt by Megan Collins and it was an absolute joy to make! I’ll go through my testing experience and how I chose colours for the two versions I made.

I applied and was chosen to be a tester for the wonderful Megan Collins for her Love & Stitches quilt this summer. It was the first time I got to pattern test so I was super excited having made a couple of her That’s No Moon quilts before. Being a tester is a fun way to get to make new patterns before they’re released, and really appeals to my editing/quilt-math geekery! (I love checking a bit of quilt math, so hit me up if you need some help!)

I ended up making two versions; a baby and a throw size. I made an Interwoven quilt last year and thought the baby version would be a fun way to use up some of the leftover blocks, and that gave me some inspiration to do a 2 colour throw size for friends of ours that were supposed to get married in August.

The baby quilt version will be put up for sale soon, but get in touch if you like the look of it and we can work something out!

For the Interwoven leftovers baby quilt I got some Ruby Star Society Grid in Cotton Candy as a background and a lovely textured cotton lawn for the backing from Cloth & Candy. I had been wanting to use that textured lawn on something and decided it was the perfect baby quilt backing!

The wedding gift is for one of my husbands friends from high school so I thought going all Art Gallery Fabrics would be a fitting wedding present! The top is made from their solid in Caviar and several prints from their Earthen Collection with a few of their low volume prints to get me to the 8 fat quarters I needed. Knowing their house I wanted to keep the quilt very modern and the lighter hearts against the not quite black background was perfect. I found a wide back batik with a grid pattern which fit the feel of the front in grey. (I got the Caviar and a few of the fat quarters from Cow and Giraffe, and the Earthen were from Sew Hot)

My next blog post will be a mini tutorial on how I made the two colour hearts for the wedding gift throw so check that out!

Megan’s patterns are already wonderful by the time she sends them out to testers, so you get to just enjoy making the quilt rather than figuring out if the pattern works.

Love & Stitches is a really quick make, so if you’re looking for a quilt to make for a gift this is a good one! There are so many ways to change it up and make it different. I’m already thinking up other versions I could make! There may or may not be a broken heart pillow coming soon..
