Wee trip to Ardnamurchan

My husband and I managed to escape to Ardnamurchan for a few days last week! Thought I’d share some photos of some of the scenery and a lot of my favouritest quilt ever.

Since we had a couple big trips cancelled this year and don’t know when we’ll get across to Texas to visit my family I thought a few days away somewhere quiet would be nice. Ardtornish Estate was in the absolute middle of nowhere and the only things we could hear were the stream/waterfall/river near the cottage and a demonic cow that liked to shout at night. (It was actually a stag shouting about how he had some lovely lady deer and how he wasn’t going to share them, but we kept referring it to the demonic cow the rest of the trip because that’s definitely what it sounded like!)

The first day we had after we got there we just wandered about the estate, there’s a river path, nature watching hides, and a “road” that went along the side of Loch Aline that we followed for a while. We saw loads of birds, got rained on a little, and spotted an otter!

My husband managed to catch that footage of the otter with our little otterhound jumping up at the end. (She’s not actually an otterhound, but looks like a mini one!)

The next day we trekked the 2hr drive up and around Loch Sunart to get to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse. On the way we stopped at Camas nan Geall where there was a small parking area at the top of a cliff overlooking a bay. We stopped to check it out and break up the drive a little, but really lucked out as there was gorgous sun across the hills on the other side of the bay! A man with his camera told us he’d waited all week to catch some sun on that hill so we counted ourselves lucky we happened to decide to stop! I of course had to get my quilt out, and we took Tally out for a few minutes once the sheep had moved away a bit.

Another hour of single track roads and we made it to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse and some cake from the cafe! We were the westernmost people (and dog) on mainland Great Britain for a short while. I waved, but you’d probably only have seen me in Greenland or Newfoundland as we’re actually pretty high up in the lattitude!

Hope you enjoyed our little adventure! There probably won’t be another for a while! Back to work and more lockdowns.. Sign up to my newsletter if you want to hear about more adventures, or shop updates, quilt patterns, anything really! (You can sign up to the right of the page, or here!)

I’ll post more about the quilt soon! I’m working away hand quilting the stars. Couldn’t help but take and share photos of it before it was finished though. Pattern is Mini Periwinkle quilt by Missouri Star Quilt Co and fabric is all SKY ombre by Jennifer Sampou. (Bought the fabric from Flipflop Fabric Shop)
