creating gold
Another quilt I had the opportunity to test this summer was the Harte Quilt by Riane Elise and it is such a wonderful pattern!
I have followed Riane Elise for a while and absolutely love her style and colour schemes. I tend to go a bit more wild with colour, but her muted tones also really appeal to me. One of my favourite patterns of hers is Prince which is an optional 2 sided quilt that somehow just screams crown even though it’s just half-rectangle-triangles. I love the simplicity of it and the fantastical idea it represents! So you can tell I was thrilled when I got to test one of her patterns – Harte Quilt!

For this quilt I knew I was going to make a crib size and wanted to use the Ruby Star Society horses from their Darlings collection as the backing. I then pulled colours from that to use for the front so they’d tie together. With a few recent quilts I’ve found it works well if you pull colours out of a print fabric you like, they sometimes seem to gel better than picking at random! I also did this for the Sonic Bloom quilt I tested which I’ll be writing about in my next blog post.
The colours I used here are (from top to bottom in the photo above):
(I ordered all of these from Wool Warehouse which is a lifesaver for fabric and yarn here in the UK!)
This quilt was a breeze to put together and would be an excellent baby quilt gift if you’re looking for a fast project! I think you could make and quilt it in a day if you were focused!

To quilt it I wanted to use a combination of machine and hand quilting to add some texture. For the quarter-square-triangle boxes in the middle I used a pattern from the Walk book by Jacquie Gering that has amazing informationa bout quilting with your walking foot. This was the Simple Diamond pattern from the Point to Point Lines section of the book. I wanted it to add a sense of 3D-ness to the focal blocks. Then I added some echo hand quilting to the outer triangles and a box shape to the background colour squares.

This quilt was such a pleasure to make I’ve added it to my list of “would be good gifts” patterns! It’s quick and doesn’t take a lot of fabric which are perfect gift list qualities!
If you’ve made it this far and love this quilt it’s available for sale if you have a little one in your life that would enjoy a horse themed quilt/playmat/blanket fort building materials! Get in touch via my contact form for more details, I’ll be putting it on Etsy soon so don’t delay if you want it first!
